Who we are

The Wukchumni Community Land Trust is a tribal-led nonprofit dedicated to acquiring, stewarding, and protecting land in ways that honor Wukchumni culture, history, and traditional lifeways. The purpose of the Wukchumni Community Land Trust is to serve as a permanent steward of land that supports the cultural survival, self-determination, and well-being of the Wukchumni people and the broader community. The CLT was established to:

  • Acquire, hold, and manage land in perpetuity in a manner that honors Wukchumni culture, history, and traditional lifeways for the benefit of future generations;

  • Preserve, protect, and enhance land for agricultural use and for its natural, scenic, historical, forested, open-space, and cultural significance;

  • Acquire and steward land for the benefit of the community, with a particular emphasis on maintaining permanently affordable housing for lower-income households;

  • Conduct research to identify suitable properties, and apply for grants, loans, and other funding sources to acquire, develop, and maintain those properties;

  • Ensure that all housing developed or stewarded by the Trust remains permanently affordable and removed from speculative markets; and

  • Promote responsible, culturally grounded land stewardship practices that sustain ecosystems, community stability, and intergenerational access to land.

Through these purposes, the Wukchumni Community Land Trust advances long-term land protection, housing affordability, cultural resilience, and community well-being.
