Community Land Trusts (CLTs) are nonprofit organizations governed by a board of CLT residents, community residents and public representatives that provide lasting community assets and shared equity homeownership opportunities for families and communities. CLTs develop rural and urban agriculture projects, commercial spaces to serve local communities, affordable rental and cooperative housing projects, and conserve land or urban green spaces. However, the heart of their work is the creation of homes that remain permanently affordable, providing successful homeownership opportunities for generations of lower income families.

A typical community land trust is a nonprofit run by a board, staff, and community members. The community land trust balances the interest of its residents, the broader community, and the public interest to promote wealth building, retention of public resources, and solutions for community needs.

We are a tribal-led and governed Community Land Trust focused on providing permanently affordable housing and hold land in perpetuity for our future generations. We are the only tribal-led CLT in the Central Valley and one of only a few in California.
The creation of Wukchumni CLT came after many visioning sessions with Wukchumni elders, adults, youth, and community members on housing and land access needs. One of the goals of the CLT is to create a modern village that honors Wukchumni culture and history, while also providing permanent housing for Wukchumni tribal members and the community for generations to come.
Our Board of Directors is comprised of two representatives from the Wukchumni Council, two representatives from the Wukchumni Elders Council, and two from the community with interest in developing our CLT. Once we have residents, they will organize and decide two representatives to fill the community members Board positions.
